The Bear Den (3rd grade) took a trip to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens this past Sunday afternoon. They were there to explore the grounds and work on the Fur, Feathers, and Ferns adventure. We hiked the entire grounds and identified signs that animals, insects and plants were living near our path. We also used magnifying glasses to view some of the plants more closely.
Our hike took us through a bog, a fern garden, all sorts of gardens and eventually the Japanese gardens at the end of the property. On the way back we hiked through the Barber Alabama Woodlands where we found a sculpture placed there as an Eagle Scout project. When we arrived back at the front gate, the boys had completed all their requirements and were awarded their adventure belt loop.
