About Pack 95

History

When Shades Valley Lutheran Church (SVLC) was formed, the new leaders decided to sponsor the existing boy scout troop that was meeting at an old wooden church on Hollywood Boulevard that SVLC had purchased. This was over 60 years ago and Pack 95 continues as well as Boy Scout Troop 95. SVLC provides the Pack with meeting space and the use of the Al Doerfler Scout Hut located on the grounds of the Church. Al Doefler was a charter church member and a professional Scouter.

If anyone has any additional information on the history of this troop please let us know. We would like to expand this page and honor those who came through the programs.

Who Is In This Pack?

Cub Scouts in the three Homewood City Elementary Schools generally split up into the different Packs across the city. Shades Cahaba Elementary cub scouts generally come to this Pack but all are welcome. We also have students from private schools who do not have a pack in their area. Currently our cub scouts come from over-the-mountain cities but there is no requirement to be in this Pack other than we want you to enjoy your time with us. Come by and visit and see if this is the Pack for you and your Cub Scout.

Pack Meetings

We meet on the second Sunday of every month at 4:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall of Shades Valley Lutheran Church. Make sure you check our calendar to see if times and location has changed.

The church is conveniently located across the street from Macy’s at Colonial Brookwood Village at the Shades Creek Parkway and Highway 280 interchange.

Our Chartering Organization

All Scout units are owned and run by a sponsoring group called a chartered organization. Our chartered organization is Shades Valley Lutheran Church. They have provided meeting space, stored our equipment and supported the Pack for over 60 years. We are lucky to be affiliated with a group as committed to us as they are. They also support Troop 95 which includes former members of Pack 95.

Chartering Organizations are quite often affiliated with religious groups, the LDS and Methodist Church being two of the biggest. Schools and Fraternal organizations are also sponsors.

Even though our pack is charted by a Lutheran Church we accept families of all denominations and faiths.

Our Council

Pack 95 is a member of the Greater Alabama Council which covers North and North-Central Alabama. Within the Greater Alabama Council we are members of the Vulcan District which covers the southern suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama in Jefferson County.
